The Connecticut Norwich Historical Society
The Connecticut Norwich Historical Society has available for the public two historic tape recordings of the reinterment of Samuel and Martha Huntington. Some 400 people gathered that bright, warm November day in the Colonial Cemetery to view the mpressive ceremony.
The tomb had been completely restored after being in shameful condition. The remains of Samuel and Martha Huntington were removed by Mark Helmboldt of Church and Allen and then re-entombed. The First and Second Connecticut Foot Guard gave military presence and honor to the ceremony.
A most creative and talented professional television producer from Niantic, Paul Kramm, recorded the entire restoration and the funeral in a marvelous l7 minute production. It presents the entire reinterment funeral program with remarks by Congressman Rob Simmons, presidential historian Stanley Klos, and Jackie Dodd, wife of Senator Christopher Dodd.
The tape recordings provide graphic insight into the great, historic life of Samuel Huntington, signer of the Declaration of Independence, first President of the United States, and Governor of the State of Connecticut.
