This was my first time as a foreigner in Indonesia experience the islamic holy month for muslims ramadan. I didn't know at first but Indonesia has the largest population of muslims in the world. The kindest and warmth of the Indonesian people will never stop suprising me. I was able to fast in Jakarta and experience Jummah prayers at the amazing Istiqlal mosque. I was than able to smell extra nice and purchase some Ramadan Oud.
I was able to break my fast with delicious indonesian foods at the Sarinah food street. I had sate ayam and the most spicy delicious nasi goreng and my favourite Martabak. The energy was beautiful and I spoke the little Bahasa I know to everyone.
I finished off my special ramadan experience in Indonesia back at Istiqlal mosque for the evening prayers where I spoke to the army, and many indonesians. The energy was truly magical and I feel extremely lucky to have been able to experience Ramadan in such a wonderful city and country.
