I enjoy working on pen and ink flower illustrations, they combine my love of drawing with my love of watercolour too.
In this video, I share some of the techniques I have used within this study of a complex Honeysuckle flower. Whilst the colours are added later with a watercolour wash, the pen and ink work creates the overall shape and three-dimensional form of the flower. A combination of 3 techniques, and varying the density at which I apply them, will gradually build a realistic feel to the piece. I explain the process in detail as I demonstrate and then use the techniques, and I hope that you will be able to use them within your own work.
