When Naomi Osaka needed advice
When Naomi Osaka needed advice before and after having her first child, she didn't ask a fellow tennis mother, instead she chose an Olympic champion from a different arena..
Speaking in Brisbane, Australia where the former world no.1 will make her return to tennis after giving birth over the summer, Osaka said she asked American sprinter and fellow mother Allyson Felix for tips on how to juggle being an athlete and a mom.
"I talked to her a lot before the birth and then after the birth," Osaka said in an interview with the WTA, "I see her and all the incredible things that she does, and she's paved the way for a lot of us."
Felix, a retired seven-time Olympic gold medallist, has a five-year-old daughter and announced last month that she and husband Kenneth Ferguson are expecting a second.
Osaka and her boyfriend, the American rapper Cordae, welcomed their daughter Shai on July 7th.
The Japanese star is set to return to the court on Monday at the Brisbane International, where she will begin her comeback against Germany's Tamara Korpatsch.
She played her last match at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in September of 2022, crashing out in the second round
