This tutorial shows you how to overclock your graphics card with MSI Afterburner. This works for all types of models, Nvidia and AMD alike.
The core voltage will remain untouched, making it safer for you.
Even though today's hardware will in most cases shut itself off before damage occurs, full disclaimer though: overclocking any hardware may result in damage, so do it at your own risk.
Only the power limit, core clock and memory clock will be adjusted. That is the safest way to overclock your GPU and also requires no advanced cooling.
To check whether the overclock works, you can run the heaven benchmark by unigine and see whether the image remains artefact free.
For my ASUS Strix GTX 1080 I did the following and can be adjusted to your GPU, denoted by *:
1) max the power level
2) increase core clock by 25 MHz*
3) increase memory clock by 50 MHz*
4) check for artifacts/stability using Heaven benchmark
I ran 3DMark benchmark and Heaven benchmark with my stable overclock and could increase the FPS by 5.75% and 6.66% respectively.
Please keep in mind that GPU OC runs a slight risk of blue screens.
