Lionel Loueke, Bob Mintzer & WDR BIG BAND - Virgin Forest

Together with Lionel Loueke (guitar, vocals), the WDR BIG BAND plays the latter's composition "Virgin Forest" in an arrangement by chief conductor Bob Mintzer. Further solos are played by Johan Hörlen on soprano saxophone and Sebastian Nickoll on percussion. Produced as part of the WDR JAZZCLUB concert "African Soul" at the WDR Studios Bocklemünd / Cologne (December 2022).

The internationally award-winning guitarist Lionel Loueke comes from Benin in West Africa. His strongly rhythmic music with its thoroughly independent sound can be heard on numerous albums, including on the renowned jazz label Blue Note. Loueke's bands regularly feature renowned soloists such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding.
