Joe Theismann led the Washington Redskins to two Super Bowl games. He had his sights set on a third when Lawrence Taylor famously tackled him during a Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants on November 18, 1985. As the crowds chanted his name, he was carried out of RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. on a stretcher. In an instant, he went from being a star NFL quarterback to being unable to walk. He tried his best to come back to the NFL, training for months to get back up to speed but was cut after his first workout with the team post-injury. Theismann had the same locker for 12 years, and recalls finding his things in a cardboard box that day. His replacement had already moved into his locker. Theismann says he struggled with a loss of identity and fame, before deciding he had to change. He says from that moment on, he did his best to be a better person and cherish each moment, because you never know when it will be your last. He went on to be a successful restauranteur, as well as a motivational speaker and actor. Most recently, he appeared in a Hallmark film, “Snowcoming.”
