Is Mexican Food all about tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and fajitas? What are Mexican Foods? What is Mexican food culture like? What are Mexican street delicacies? Today we will dive into the streets of Mexico and try Mexican street food. We are in the city of San Cristobal De Las Casas in the Chiapas region, the land of the Zapatistas and Maya Indians.

The best place to find Mexican Street Food is San Cristobal Marketplace. Maya Tsotzil locals sell agricultural products and colorful clothes here. There are lots of potatoes, tomatoes and peppers in the market. The homeland of these plants is Central America. Mexican natives sometimes don't like the camera. Some indigenous groups think the camera has stolen their souls. The Mayan Tsotzil Indians have a hybrid religion that mixes Mayan religion and Christianity. When they became Christians by the force of the Spaniards, they somehow preserved their religion and kept it within Christianity. For example, they gave Christian saints the duties of their gods. Even though we are far from the sea, the fish comes from the La Costuro River and the Pacific Ocean to San Cristobal Market. There are dried fish.
In Mexico, they eat the mango with bitterness. Not if they don't pour chili and chili sauce on everything. This is Mexico! A Mexican street vendor cuts the mango in such a way that it looks like a pine cone.
Macadamia Nuts or Macadamia Nuts are sold. From afar it looks like a ball of chocolate. One of the world's largest chocolate producers tries to put macadamia nuts in chocolate, but cannot get the same taste, since nearly 90% of the hazelnuts put into chocolate are produced in Turkey and the price cannot be lowered. Grasshopper is a very popular snack in Mexican cuisine. They call it Chapulina. The currency of Mexico is the Peso. I'm buying grasshoppers for 20 pesos. There are even locust-eating prophets. Grasshoppers are a good source of protein.

Our Mexico travel vlog ends with a lemon locust from Mexican street food in the city of San Cristobal Las Casas. You can check my other travel vlogs for places to visit in Mexico and my Mexico Travel notes.

I am sharing with you the local markets and the street food I ate in San Cristobal during my trip to Mexico sponsored by Just English Language Schools (https://www.justenglishtr.com).
