Singer Jose Chameleone’s much-anticipated ‘Ggwanga Mujje’ concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval has sold out.

The highly billed concert attracted thousands of fans from across the country.

Peter Omoding, 25, said he traveled all the way from Kotido in north eastern Uganda to “attend Chameleone’s show. He is my favorite musician.”

Janet Mbabazi, 37, a hairdresser used public means to travel from Kabale in south western Uganda to show her support for Chameleone.

“I wanted to be part of this history,” said Mbabazi, adding, “Chameleone is the greatest musician of our time.”
By 5:00pm on Friday, Lugogo Cricket Oval was almost filled to capacity.

Due to bad weather that damaged the stage and sound equipment, the event, which was originally planned for February 10, was moved to today, February 24.

The VIP section was overbooked as fans scrambled for seats.

The musician’s appearance on stage was preceded by several performances of local artistes.

Chameleone, who took to the stage at around 9:10pm, described himself as “a national asset” that must be cherished and preserved.

“Thank you for embarrassing my enemies,” Chameleone told fans.

“They don’t know you love me so much.”

Known for his highly energetic performances, the 43-year-old musician later rolled out ‘Kipepeo’ before singing ‘Nekolela Mali’.

Revellers said the music, sound and ambience were on point.

“We are experiencing greatness,” says Chris Ogon, the popular Ugandan cartoonist, who is attending the show.

Chameleone started his music career in the late 90’s while affiliated to Ogopa Deejays record label in Kenya.

Flanked by backup dancers and a band, Chameleone has kept his fans on their toes as they dance to his tunes such as “Shida Za Dunia” and ‘Effuga Bbi.”

At 9:50pm, MC Daggy Nice interrupted the music show to present a ‘surprise gift’ to Chameleone in form of recorded video messages from Chameleone’s children living in United States.

Unimpressed, Chameleone told the DJ to roll ‘Katupakase’, sending the crowd into another round of frenzy.

The singer, who was dressed like former Zaire president Mobutu Ssesek, started off with the ‘Wale Wale’ hit, electrifying the eagerly waiting crowds.
