Ritual to Meet Elegua at the Crossroads
Elegua is a powerful deity to call upon when you are at a crossroads in your life and need a clear path to success. If you are in need, this is a simple way for anyone to ask Elegua for his help and blessings at the crossroads. You will need petition paper, a red cinnamon candy, a key, and a spiritual bath made with herbs and oils that correspond to Elegua. This is best performed on a waxing moon and on a Monday, the worship day of Elegua. If you petition another Orisha or deity, research what offerings they prefer.
First, you will need to prepare a spiritual bath in ankle-deep water and blend in the herbs or spiritual bath you have selected. Stand in the bath and begin drawing the water over your body with your bare hands while praying, “Elegua, I cleanse myself in preparation to meet you.” The spiritual bath will remove any negativity attached to you and work as a sign to tell Elegua you are coming. Before draining the water, collect a small amount in a bottle to take with you to the crossroads. Prepare your petition to Elegua. It should start with his name and then state what goals you want to achieve and what is blocking you. For example, “Elegua, I need your help deciding between two jobs. Please guide me to the best one for my success.” Go to a four-way crossroad. Stand or sit at the outer area of the road that points East with your body facing in that direction and begin chanting or reciting your petition again to Elegua. Dig a small hole in the ground and drop in your key. Pour the bath water you collected into the hole and refill with dirt.
