The 'New Great Game' Theory is a name given to the current conflict between the USA, Russia, England, China, Iran, India and Pakistan to benefit from and/or seize the oil and natural gas resources of the former Soviet countries and to ensure the control and security of pipelines. .
The name is a reference to the original Great Game, the term used by historians to describe the 19th-century political and diplomatic rivalry between the British and Russian empires for territory and influence among Central Asian states.
The term "Great Game" became more widely used after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
