TREK 1120 Custom Rack Mods

Thanks for joining me today for this custom modification video.  The Trek 1120 comes with some very specialized custom racks.  I've read about, and seen one break so I decided to make my own custom supports.  I'm sure the factory units are strong but if you've seen where and how I ride I wanted to be sure they don't break.  If you choose to do this yourself you may void your warranty!!!  If you have any questions or comments I'd be happy to address them.

I picked up the "L" bracket material at my local hardware store for about 6 bucks.  Each piece was 4 feet long and provided enough for all four brackets.
After cutting, filing, and sanding, I put a coat of primer on.  That was followed up with several coats of flat black paint.  The nuts and bolts were all M5-0.8.  I needed different lengths based on where the bolts were used.  They were all between 8-16mm in length.  I also used split washers but I might replace them with lock nuts.

There are lots of frame bags available online and local.  I decided to get a custom made unit for two main reasons. I wanted to support a local company (Colorado).  I also wanted excelent fit with maximized volume of storage. Bedrock bags was the obvious choice. We had some fit issues with the original unit but they are going to replace it for free. WOW, that's customer service. The quality of these units is top shelf too.
