In this edition of ID That Tree, we're going to introduce you to a native Indiana oak species, blackjack oak. It can be found in high, dry, rocky ridges where soil moisture is limited. It can be defined by its bear paw shaped leaves that tend to be very shiny and waxy on top, and have a leathery texture. On the underside, leaves tend to have a rusty color.
