It is a systematic approach that breaks down a task into individual motions or elements and assigns predetermined times to each motion based on predetermined motion time data. The goal of a PMTS is to determine the standard time required to complete a task accurately and consistently. This information is valuable for various purposes, including estimating production time, setting work standards, evaluating work methods, and identifying areas for improvement in terms of productivity and efficiency. Here are the key steps involved in conducting a predetermined motion time study: Task Analysis: The first step is to carefully analyze the task or job being studied. Break it down into smaller motions or elements that can be easily observed and timed. Each motion should have a clear beginning and end. Predetermined Motion Time Data: A predetermined motion time database or published time standards are used to assign times to each motion. These standards are developed based on historical data, time studies conducted in the past, or predetermined time systems such as MTM (Methods-Time Measurement) or MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique). Time Measurement: The time for each motion is measured using a stopwatch or timing device. The observer closely observes the worker performing the task and records the time taken for each motion separately. Rating: In some cases, a rating factor is applied to adjust the times based on the difficulty or intensity of the motion being performed. This factor accounts for factors such as fatigue, concentration, and complexity. Calculation: The times for individual motions are added together to determine the total time required to complete the task. Additional allowances for rest, personal time, and other factors may be included to arrive at the final standard time. Analysis and Application: The data collected during the study can be analyzed to identify areas for improvement, eliminate unnecessary motions, optimize work methods, and set realistic production targets. The standard time determined from the study can be used for various purposes, including setting work standards, determining staffing levels, and evaluating worker performance. PMTS is a widely used technique in industries where time and motion analysis is crucial for efficient operations. It provides a systematic approach to understanding work processes and can help organizations improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance overall efficiency. #management #managementcolleges #entrepreneurship #levelsofmanagement #organisation #typesoforganisations #productionmanagement #materialmanagement #industrialsafety #maintenancemanagement #managementbasics #compitativeexams #mechanicalengineering
