Out on the River Stour, the Great Stour in Kent.
A challenging day. It started with 2 hours in traffic, travelling the fifty-six miles to the outskirts of Canterbury. Rain, high winds, and low light scuppered my plans to video the ten-mile paddle from Grove Ferry to Fordwich and back on the Great Stour. However, not to be beaten, I paddled seven miles to the Tidal Lake and back in (up to) 20-mile-an-hour gusts and rain.
Once back at the Grove Ferry launch point, I decided that although the weather was still grim, I would attach my electric fin and cruise a bit further downstream towards Plucks Gutter to test out the e-fin in tidal and windy conditions.
Not exactly a scientific analysis, but I have just checked the remaining charge on my Hiqmar EP18Li E-Fin battery with my new mini pen multimeter, and to my surprise, it is registering 26.7%
26.7% = approximately 94% charge.
Now, I was testing the e-fin out for about 20 minutes, running it in both sport and drive mode. To add to this, I spent at least 5 minutes running it forward and backward vigorously while trying to clear weed that had been drawn into the motor and around the propeller. Also, the battery has been sitting indoors for 9 days since I recorded this video, so there would still be a slight discharge.
OK, not much of a test really, and we all know how fast lithium batteries can discharge from about 60%, still, I expected it to be at about 60-50% with what I was putting it through.
Difficult weather conditions to record footage and some Of the audio was badly affected by cross winds. Also, the very low light and sun flicker caused problems with the exposure, so this video took a lot of correcting in post-production.
