This is a traditional eucharistic
This is a traditional eucharistic hymn typically sung at the beginning of the Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, an ancient ritual of the Catholic Church which dates back to the 1260s.
This was recorded after a high mass in celebration of the Feast of Christ the King. The parish had planned a procession after mass, but I wasn't clear on our music plans. Everything worked out, and I was able to share a quick lesson on improvising when things don't go as planned.
Typically our Benediction starts with O Salutaris Hostia, followed by the chants Tantum Ergo and Adoremus, concluding with Holy God We Praise Thy Name. I will probably be able to record a complete Benediction this weekend.
1. O salutáris Hostia,
Quæ cæli pandis stium:
Bella premunt hostília,
Da robur, fer auxílium.
2. Uni trinoque Domino
Sit sempitérna glória,
Qui vitam sine término
Nobis donet in pátria.
Amen.
Translation:
1. O, salutary Victim,
Who expandest the door of heaven,
Hostile armies press,
Give strength; bear aid.
2. To the Triune Lord,
May there be everlasting glory;
that life without end He
to us give in our homeland.
Amen.
