The big battle at this year’s Farnborough Airshow is not aircraft sales, but engine competition. Facing a crucial few months with the Trent XWB-97 engine, Roll-Royce is preparing its engine to fly on the A350-1000. Meanwhile, the medium-thrust engine sector has fierce competition with the CFM Leap 1B on the 737 MAX competing with the Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan on the A320neo.
