In this video I discuss the normal reflexes newborns have at birth. We assess reflexes as part of head to toe assessment. When we are assessing reflexes we are assessing the baby's neurological system. Any variations could be indicative of a CNS abnormality. Therefore its important to understand not only how to elicit the reflex but at what age do we expect the reflex to disappear. Many of these reflexes are needed for survival early on so its important that the nurse takes the time to assess these properly.
