Smoke Detector Chirping – How to Stop the Beeping and Change Battery in a Hard Wired Smoke Detector Duracell 9 Volt Batteries: https://amzn.to/2SaEH08 Energizer AA Batteries: https://amzn.to/34cdfEK A chirping or beeping sound from a smoke detector indicates that it needs a new battery. It’s really easy to do and can be done in about 2 minutes. To unmount the smoke detector, give it a twist. detector will still be connected by a wire connector. This simply pops off to take the detector down to change the battery. The connector actually covers part of the battery door so it has to be removed before the door can be accessed. There’s a little tab that helps pop out the old 9 volt battery. When replacing the battery, make sure you get the polarity correct. To insert the new battery, the spring loaded tab needs to be folded down with the battery. This tab may look slightly different on different brands of detectors. But the battery door won’t close if this is still popped up. Once the new battery is in, plug the wire connector back into the smoke detector and twist it back into place. That’s it and you won’t have to worry about your smoke detector beeping or chirping for quite a while.
