Lime in natural form is CaCO3. On burning in kilns, it gives Quicklime CaO(unstable).CaO when added to water(hydration) forms Ca(OH)2 giving out tremendous amount of heat. This is the process that we have carried out to make hydrated lime Ca(OH)2 or slaked lime is another name.Slaked lime is commonly also called lime putty particularly among painters.Lime putti is mixed with mud to make a base coat of plaster. Dried slaked lime is also readily available in powder form in packets which is to be mixed with water to form putty. This is typically available in paint shops and is often used by painters. The strength of freshly slaked lime is much better than what this market product gives.
We bought quicklime which was locally called 'Dhiglawala chuna' in hindi or 'khaDyatla chuna' in marathi. There are very few places where this is available because local kilns have slowly disappeared. Apparantly the quicklime we bought was also  sourced from Haryana.
