Israel is looking for security guarantees for residents to return to villages and towns along the border with Lebanon.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has proposed the establishment of a safe zone along the border, coupled with other security measures. While he did not provide detailed information, Israeli sources suggest the involvement of French troops on the Lebanese side and American soldiers on the Israeli side of the border to ensure security.

The idea is that France and America would offer security assurances. This proposal bears resemblance to Israel's 2006 stance during the last war with Hezbollah when it sought the deployment of international forces with a robust mandate along the Lebanon border to disarm Hezbollah. However, this did not materialize, and instead, UN resolution 1701 was adopted. This resolution expanded the UN peacekeeping force in the south, but it remains largely toothless, lacking the authority to disarm Hezbollah.

Hezbollah has not officially commented on these recent proposals.
