Myrmica rubra + extra (HUMIDITY + HEAT + HONEY WATER/INSECTS/PROTEIN + SATELLITE NEST) = LOTS OF BROOD / 2 WEEKS!!!

Over the past two weeks, I've been gradually increasing the ambient temperature and humidity in my bedroom, and hence the hunting grounds and main nest of my Myrmica rubra colony. With my bedroom door closed at all times while the hunting ground heat lamp is on, my laptop is on, and the window curtains open, my bedroom has been able to maintain an average temperature of about 25 - 27 Degrees C during the day. I made sure to continually keep the inside of the nest wet by placing a few drops of water every few days into select rooms/reservoirs through holes drilled into the plexiglass (you can see one of such holes in this video).

I also provided the ants this past week with some honey water as well as large doses of insects/prey items (e.g. up to thirty flies in two days, small earthworms, earwigs, wild-caught as well as store-bought crickets, etc) and meat (mostly pieces of cooked egg, shrimp, fish, crab, and lobster).

Also, this past week, I provided the ants with a proper artificial nest for them to satisfy their need to create a satellite nest for themselves incase they didn't want to have to travel all the way back to the main nest, and also to make more room in the main nest, as the colony has been growing.

In my opinion, all of the above conditions have led to an obvious explosion of eggs and larvae within the main nest. I'm fairly certain that the eggs and larvae that now exist in the ant nest are all captive born (I collected this colony from the wild about five weeks ago), and I have noticed a dramatic increase in the brood in just over two weeks. This video takes you through that entire journey with video footage I took over the past two weeks of feeding, moving, transporting, drinking, nourishing, and tending the new captive-born generation.
