Gauri Prasanna Majumder is considered
Gauri Prasanna Majumder is considered to be one of the classic lyricists of the golden era of Bengali film namely from the black and white era. He is most commonly associated with the golden age of Bengali cinema, when he penned several enduring classics for the films like Anyay Abichar, Maqsad, Tinmurti, Aparupa, Anusandhan, and Dhanraj Tamang.
Gouri Prasanna Majumder did extensive works with many of the stalwarts of the music fraternity such as R D Burman, Ansuman Roy, Hemanta Mukherjee, S D Burman and Kishore Kumar. He was a contemporary of Nachiketa Ghosh, Robin Chattopadhyay, Hemanta Mukherjee, Uttam Kumar, and Kishore Kumar, and worked extensively with R D Burman and Kishore Kumar among others. Gauri Prasanna in his sprawling career graph penned lyrics for almost all of the Legendary singers of his era such as Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar etc.
His Father Girija Prasanna Majumder was a professor at the famous Presidency College. He was born in the year 1924 at the Eden Hindu hostel where his father was working as the superintendent. Gauri Prasanna took his initial formal training under the legendary composer Anupam Ghatak. Gouri Prasanna Majumder himself was a student of Presidency College. It was during this time when he was an undergraduate student he met S D Burman for the first time. Gauri Prasanna wrote a song “Bondhu go ei modhumash...” which Karta composed and sang himself for his album. Most probably this can be considered as the first recorded song of Gouri prasanna majumder as well. After this there was no looking back for him and he created milestones after milestones for Bengali Movies and Composers.
This Compilation is a homage to this legendary songwriter. This compilation contains hit folk songs of the Ansuman Roy, Gouri prasanna Majumder Duo such as “Bhaador Aashin Maashey” and “Dada Paaye Pori Rey”. Also this compilation has five songs from the Amitabh Bachhan starer hit film Anushandhan that showcases the magic of R D Burman and Gouri prasanna Majumder together. Another hit film Dhanraj Tamang's songs are also compiled here. Gouriprasanna Majumder has delivered innumerable hit songs in his entire Career span.This album showcases many stalwarts like Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar lending their voices to the words of Gouri prasanna Majumder.
