Uttar Pradesh has emerged as new liquor capital. The state has recorded the highest excise revenue generation of Rs 42,000 crore surpassing the bellwether state of Karnataka. And this happened because of the new excise policy that has almost overthrown the monopoly and allowed small players to enter the liquor industry. Swanky liquor shops masquerading as malls, microbreweries and 'aahatas' dot the NCR towns of Ghaziabad and Noida. The officials from excise department said that CM Yogi doesn’t like to talk about liquor but he well understands that revenue is important to run the state. 'We can’t stop people from drinking liquor but we can ensure that they drink the right one and not spurious,' said an official from the excise department.
