Have you ever wondered why words like 'rise' and 'rice' are pronounced differently in the American accent? While you might point out that the s in 'rise' is pronounced like a /z/, and the c in 'rice' is pronounced like an /s/, I'm referring to another difference. In addition to the different consonants, the vowels are different, too! That's because we don't have just one /ai/ diphthong in American English -- we have two!

In this video, you'll learn the variations in vowel length before voiced and voiceless consonants and how to differentiate between the two in your own speech.

Together, we'll look at several examples and discover the rhythmic patterns and duration variations that make American English so distinctive. By mastering these subtle differences, you'll sound like a native speaker and captivate your audience with your flawless American pronunciation.
