This is very useful on a console like the PS3 which always has the HDCP on. The PS4 has an option to turn it off, so you can capture games, but netflix, youtube, hulu, and any other video app will block the capture card, with no way to launch these apps with HDCP turned off. Now you can turn HDCP on, and launch any app you want, and then capture via HDMI. Component maxes out at 1080i, while HDMI can go to at least 4k!
