BT TV Box & Remote problem

Can you help? I have a problem with my BT TV. One day I switched my TV on and I noticed that my BT TV Box did not respond normally to my input on the remote control. For instance if I pressed a number it would repeat the number so if I pressed 4 once it would come up on screen 4, 44, 444 until I press OK (on a channel that exists). On the program guide if I went to go through the selection of channels it would scroll through the pages very fast until I press OK. If I wanted to turn the volume up it would go up continuously until I press down.

I have tried to reset both the box and the remote after looking online pressed the correct reset buttons. I have also tried calling BT and they sent a new remote but it has not solved the problem.

Can anyone help? Please.
