How It Works | Indexing Valves

An irrigation indexing valve is a mechanical valve used in certain types of irrigation systems, particularly in situations where multiple zones or areas need to be watered sequentially. The indexing valve operates by rotating a central rotor or cam, which in turn directs water flow to different zones one at a time. Each zone is typically connected to a separate outlet port on the indexing valve. As the rotor rotates, it aligns with each outlet port in sequence, allowing water to flow into the corresponding zone. This rotational movement is usually triggered by water pressure changes or a mechanical timer. Indexing valves eliminate the need for individual electric solenoid valves or complex wiring systems.
