I sure do love a good Shore Pine! Pinus Contorta v Contorta is a common tree all throughout Cascadia that is incredibly resilient, often growing in poor soils at low to middle elevations. It's easy to identify because of it's short twisted needles that sprout in pairs, and iconic cones which are activated by heat and fire to free the seeds inside. They have two other variants which all interbreed and hybridize in Cascadia, the Tamarack Pine and Lodgepole Pine - all great pines!
