When most people think of financial minimalism they think of someone who wears a black shirt, doesn't own anything, and is very cheap, but this is not what financial minimalism is. Financial minimalism is the concept of intentionally using money in a way that aligns with your values and beliefs to live a life you believe is meaningful.

There is not one set of choices that a financial minimalist makes because we all value different things in our lives. The thing that makes a person a financial minimalist is a set of principles that they abide by.

These are the 6 principles:

1. Understanding

A financial minimalist has a clear understanding of what money is. Most people view money as just a means of exchange. They view money as a tool to buy things. A financial minimalist views money as a tool to give them more control over their life. They understand that they need to understand and respect money because if they don't then money will control them.

2. Responsibility

A financial minimalist is responsible. They understand the difference between a want and a need, and they will never go in debt or overspend on a want. They avoid debt, save, and invest. so they do not hurt their future self.

3. Intention

A financial minimalist is intentional. Every financial choice they make with their money they are doing so intentionally. They are not just spending money for the sake of spending and they are also not always trying to get the cheapest item. They evaluate their options and choose the best option for them with intention.

4. Values

A financial minimalist defines their values. The reason that there is not one single set a choices a financial minimalist makes is because we all have different values in our lives. When you define your values, you spend your money accordingly.

5. Meaning

A financial minimalist lives their life with meaning. They choose to spend and use their money on things that will provide meaning in their life. Every financial decision they make is to bring meaning into their life.

6. Originality

A financial minimalist is original. They do not follow society's norms of getting the latest phone or buying the newest car. They make decisions based on what they think is best for them, not what society tells them is good for them.

-------------------

Those are the 6 principles of financial minimalism. To become a financial minimalist you must put them into practice, you simply:

1. Understand that you can either control money or money can control you.
2. Be responsible with your money and don't make any decisions that will hurt your future self.
3. Be intentional with your money and don't just buy for the sake of buying.
4. Define your values and use your money on those values.
5. Use money as a tool to bring meaning into your life.
6. Be original and don't let society tell you what is best for you.

Money is a powerful thing and is you harness it correctly it will allow you to live the life of your dreams. Don't spend money on things you don't need, with money you don't have, to impress people you don't like.
