Philosophy 2: The Thinkers of the Ancient Greece (2/2) - Plato, Aristotle and the Hellenistic Philosophers

After the death of Socrates a student of his revolutionized the thought in Ancient Greece: Plato. He said that there were two worlds, one sensible and the other intelligible, that of ideas, which could only be accessed through the use of reason. But this philosopher was not limited only to metaphysics, but also spoke of many other subjects as physical, ethical and political.

One of his students, Aristotle, would come to overcome him in fame. This master thinker of Alexander the Great said that it was possible to know the essence of things through our senses, and also touched many other subjects, including that of God. He rejected the Greek gods and spoke of a First Engine that moved the celestial spheres. A madness that pissed off many at the time.

With the death of Alexander the Great and the successive wars of the Diadochi, democratic Greece fell, and the thought stiffened. There were new movements, centered on the pursuit of happiness, and not so much on knowing the world. Some were the Epicureans, the Stoics, the skeptics and the eclectics.
