Drone flyover of my, N8ZIP, installation of a ZeroFive 10-80 Meter Groundplane Vertical with UNUN. Shot with Autel Robotics X-Star Premium on a rainy NE Ohio Easter - 1 day after finished installation.
Mounted atop 15' 1&1/2 galvanized water pipe set 5' below grade (10' exposed). 4' deep by 1' diameter hole. Bottom 1' of pipe driven into earth (to a depth of 5' - for additional ground contact/lightning protection). Homebrew radial ring made out of 3/8 copper water pipe, 16" diameter. Scalped lawn prior to laying 2000ft of 14g THHN, insulated, solid wire for a ground radial field (64 individual 30' radials - took 8 hours between two days). Radials soldered to the radial ring; wires secured to lawn using DXEE lawn staples. 2x 8' ground rods, each spaced 1' from base of antenna. Antenna ground attached to radial ring and ground rod(s) via 8g stranded THHN.
LDG RT-600 tuner remotely mounted on antenna mast (originally mounted low as seen in this video but later moved up to just below the UNUN). Tuner also grounded to ground rod(s) via 10g stranded THHN. Tuner powered/controlled from shack via bias tee. Note: When running barefoot, the antenna will tune just fine by bypassing the RT-600 and using my in-shack MFJ 993B auto-tuner. However, some SWR losses in the feedline are experienced. The remote tuner will handle 650w and allows me to use my Ameritron 606 amplifier with maximum transfer of power/minimum feedline losses.
75’ of DXEE LMR400MAX from the shack, thru the attic, down the side of house to an 8’ ground rod/Alpha-Delta lightning arrestor just outside the house (hidden in landscaping). 75’ of the same from the lightning arrestor, in underground conduit, to the tuner. 3’ DXEE LMR400MAX jumper from tuner to antenna UNUN. All jumpers in the shack are DXEE RG8X low loss.
Rig is IC-7300 directly interfaced with the ALS 606s. Also in-line is a QSK-2500 (which affords me full break-in CW operation while using the amplifier).
