Education Coordinator John Lustrea talks with author and historian Janice P. Nimura about her award winning book The Doctors Blackwell: How Two Sisters Brought Medicine to Women and Women to Medicine. In 1849, Elizabeth Blackwell became the first women in the United States to receive and M.D. She was later joined by her sister Emily. Their many accomplishments include founding the New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children, the first hospital staffed entirely by women. The conversation will touch on the sisters Civil War work, and their wider legacy.
