Local Dimming: FALD vs Edge LED Dimming

Demonstrated by LG at InnoFest 2018, video shows the difference in the LED backlight of the company's Super UHD TV with FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) compared to the Edge LED backlight found in conventional LED LCD TVs.
The TVs on the left reproduce the normal image, while on the right the same screens appear to work without the LCD panels. Thus, on the right screens, the grouping of LEDs in the backlight that takes place in the background during video playback is easily perceived.
The TVs at the top, in both videos, use Full Array Local Dimming LED, while the ones at the bottom use Edge LED backlighting.
The videos show how the number of LED groups available in Full Array Local Dimming leads to better image contrast and denser blacks. The TVs at the bottom, in both videos, have Edge Local Dimming, the grouping of LEDs becomes more "rough" resulting in not so good relative contrast and black performance in the same scenes.

Στο video, που επέδειξε η LG στο InnoFest 2018, φαίνεται η διαφοροποίηση στον οπίσθιο φωτισμό LED backlight των Super UHD TV της εταιρείας με FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) σε σύγκριση με το Edge LED backlight που απαντάται στις συμβατικές LED LCD TV.
Οι τηλεοράσεις αριστερά αναπαράγουν την εικόνα, ενώ στη δεξιά μεριά οι ίδιες οθόνες εμφανίζονται να λειτουργούν χωρίς όμως να διαθέτουν LCD πάνελ. Έτσι, στις δεξιές οθόνες γίνεται εύκολα αντιληπτή η ομαδοποίηση των LED στο backlight που λαμβάνει χώρα στο παρασκήνιο κατά την αναπαραγωγή video.
Οι τηλεοράσεις στην άνω μεριά, και στα δύο video, χρησιμοποιούν Full Array Local Dimming LED, ενώ αυτές στο κάτω μέρος χρησιμοποιούν οπίσθιο φωτισμό τύπου Edge LED.
Από τα video γίνεται φανερό με ποιο τρόπο οι περισσότερες ομάδες LED στο Full Array Local Dimming, οδηγούν σε καλύτερη αντίθεση εικόνας και σε πιο πυκνό μαύρο. Οι τηλεοράσεις στην κάτω μεριά, και στα δύο video, διαθέτουν Edge Local Dimming, η ομαδοποίηση των LED γίνεται περισσότερο “χονδρικά” με αποτέλεσμα όχι τόσο καλές σχετικές επιδόσεις αντίθεσης και μαύρου στις ίδιες σκηνές.
