The Pope has criticised pet owners who prefer cats and dogs over children, describing them as selfish. In a frank speech during his general audience at the Vatican yesterday, he told child-averse lovers that they were denying themselves the “richness” of parenthood and described the tendency as evidence of a “certain selfishness”. So is it selfish or selfless to decide not to have children?
