Buy the complete DVD-set of Patanjali Yoga Sutras here: https://www.jkyog.org/store/ Swamiji explains, sometimes immediate pain leads to long term enlightenment. God sometimes gives us suffering to turn us away from sin and seek eternal life. Worldly opulence makes us oblivious of the presence of God. Seeking happiness in the world is the biggest misery. Reversals and despondency in the world makes us seek divine bliss. Progress is not measured by how comfortable our situation is. Progress takes place when situation is adverse and we are normal. One who is equipoised both in victory and in defeat, in happiness and in distress, in success and in failure is the one who has made spiritual progress. Suffering is when mind dwells in duality, in the absence of knowledge. About Maharshi Patanjali, one of the six sages who wrote Shad Darshan (the six-philosophical theses,) is a highly regarded Sanskrit scholar with multifaceted dimensions. His Yog Sutras(also known as Yog Darshan) that primarily deals with sadhana or spiritual practices is in the form of sutras. These sutras are “simple yet effective aphorisms that have strung the philosophy,” says Swami Mukundananda ji. The Yog Sutras are not only ancient but also very practical. Modern Psychologists too are discovering its utility in guarding or in regaining mental health. In this preamble to Patanjali Yog Sutras, Swamiji introduces us to one of the primary requisites for spiritual progress, while answering these questions in a lucid manner - Who is Patanjali? What was the purpose of his birth? How did Yog Sutras come about? What are the elements of Yog Sutras?.
