Demand-based public transport planning forms the basis of a service-oriented network. The assignment methods available in PTV Visum show planners the service lines passengers actually use. The choice of mode of transport depends on various marginal factors: travel time, number of transfers and transfer time, as well as the tariff play an important role and are included in assignment as deterrent data. This allows planners to realistically analyse how a new line, higher service frequencies or different tariffs affect public transport demand.
PTV Visum distinguishes between three assignment methods:
Headway-based assignment
Timetable-based assignment
Transport-system based assignment
