Circos is a popular tool used in bioinformatics for visualizing and analyzing large-scale genomic data. The tool produces circular plots that display genomic information in a clear and concise manner, allowing researchers to identify patterns, correlations, and variations in the data. One of the most common applications of Circos is in synteny analysis, which compares the genomes of different organisms to identify regions of similarity or homology. This can provide valuable insights into the evolution and genetic relationships between species. Additionally, Circos can be used to visualize other types of genomic data, such as gene expression profiles, epigenetic modifications, and protein-protein interactions. With its versatility and user-friendly interface, Circos has become an indispensable tool for many researchers in the field of genomics.

Circoletto is a generic tool and it cannot 'understand' what your data mean or imply - interpretation is up to you. We show inversions per segment (i.e. reverse-complementary or plus/minus segments) by twisting ribbons,   and inversions in the order of the segments by ...not crossing the ribbons (unless you reverse the orientation of ideograms). When you get used to it all, and read the sequences in the correct orientation and the ribbons in the right order,   the colouring + ordering + twisting + crossing of ribbons should show you what is going on.
