Jallaludin Mohommad (Akbar), inherited the Mughal empire of Humayan from his father at the age of 13, after the latter's death.
Raised and trained by Bairam Khan, his father's supreme commander, he became in their image: uncompromising, harsh, hard and heartless... and proud of each of these facets of his personality, the only thing Akbar learned is to expand his empire - at the cost of the lives of others - at the cost of emotions - at the cost of love - a word he has never known.

While Jodha, the daughter of Raja Bharmal, the Rajput king of Amer (one of the richest Rajput kingdoms of his time) enjoyed each of these emotions like marveling at the birds and bees of his kingdom - she did not hated that the Mughals whom she felt were invading her country and wanted to oust them from Rajputana, as well as their emperor Jallaluddin, whom she hated with all her heart.
