The surgical treatment of a cervical teratoma is different than an SCT because it is in the neck and compresses the airway. http://fetalsurgery.chop.edu

Serious compression and damage to the airway means some babies born with cervical teratomas won’t be able to breathe on their own, and may need a tracheostomy. Babies with cervical teratomas may be delivered by EXIT procedure. During an EXIT procedure, the baby is partially delivered while still connected to the placenta until an airway is established.

Lori Howell, RN, and Drs. N. Scott Adzick and Alan Flake from the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia discuss surgical treatment for cervical teratomas, the extent of damage the teratoma can cause to an infant’s airway, and the long-term outcomes for babies with cervical teratomas.

After the cervical teratoma is removed, most of the time the airway can reform. In some cases, reconstructive airway surgery may be needed. Some children might also have a thyroid resection surgery, and require lifelong thyroid replacement therapy, which is very effective.
