Trendlines are an integral part of technical analysis, especially when using price-action trading. Once you learn this technique, and how to use it the correct way, you'll begin finding repeatable patterns in the market you can enter trades with.
The issue with trend lines are most people do not draw them correctly. There's a very specific way you should be drawing these trend lines in order to maximize your chance of finding profitable setups and maximize your winning trades.
First thing we need to take into consideration is that trendlines are simply guide lines that we can draw and employ to give an idea where the price might possibly react.
Next, we need to determine which direction the trend is moving. If the trend is moving upwards, then the most important trend line is the line below the price-action, creating a floor or a support area. If the price action is trending downwards, then the most important trend line we need to draw is the trend line above the price action. This would create a sort of ceiling or a resistance area.
An important note is, we should be able to draw a trend-line once finding two points (two highs or two lows) and you would connect the wicks as best as possible. You would want to try to connect as many points as possible while trying to remain as far onto the "outer edge" of the price action.
Once we have those rules in mind, now we are ready to begin drawing trend lines. And once we have our trend lines drawn, we can begin to find our potential entries.
