CHEMICAL FREE/ALL NATURAL/PLANT - BASED HENNA INDIGO HAIR DYE
Two step process for dyeing hair brown/black for grey coverage

The night before you apply the hair dye, Make sure your hair is clean by shampooing with natural shampoo. Do not add conditioner. Let your hair dry naturally. Before you go to bed  Add  henna powder to a glass  bowl and add warm black tea until you get a yogurt like consistency. Make sure the temperature of the tea is Luke warm. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap for 8 hours.

After 8 hours ( in the morning) henna is ready to be applied on hair. First oil the sides of your face, chin, and neck. Now, add the henna first to the roots of your hair and then making your way to the tips of your hair.

Cover with plastic wrap and with a shower cap, then with a hat. This is to help
Keep the hair warm during dyeing process. If you’re using henna as a way to cover grey hair then leave on for 30 min or until grey hairs are covered orange. No need to leave on for many hours in this case. After 30 min or your when your grey hairs are colored orange, Wash your hair with cold water. No shampoo or conditioner. Let your hair dry.

Once your hair is dry make the indigo mixture by adding indigo powder to a glass bowl, then add warm water, pinch of sea salt,  until you get a yogurt like consistency.  Apply to hair form root to tip. Wrap your head with plastic wrap, then a shower cap, then a hat to keep it warm. For dark brown/black hair, leave on for 1 hour. Rinse with water only and let the colour set for 3 days before washing it with shampoo and conditioner.

Notes

-for henna Generally speaking, shoulder length hair needs about 100 grams of powder, bra strap length about 200-250 grams, hip length about 300-350 grams, and so on.

For indigo I tend to use more grams than henna powder. So for 200 g of henna powder i would use about 300 g indigo powder.

- only use glass bowl and wooden spoon to mix henna and indigo.

- If using your hands for mixing instead of a spoon make sure to wear gloves as the henna and indigo will stain your hands for some time.

-make sure to use any kind of oil on your face, chin, neck, and ears before applying the hair dye. I use coconut oil. This will prevent stains on your face.

- always choose henna and indigo powder with no other ingredient list. Look on the back of the package for henna should read - lawsonia inermes and for indigo package should read-  indigofera tinctoria. No other ingredients should be present.

- When adding salt to indigo mix make sure it’s high quality pure sea salt.
