The Genetics of Health | Sharad Paul in conversation with Sanjoy K. Roy
Author, surgeon and academic Sharad Paul takes us on a riveting journey through the connections between our evolutionary past and our future wellbeing. His book, The Genetics of Health: Understand Your Genes for Better Health, combines everyday health with evolutionary biology and explains how to improve our overall wellness on the basis of our gene type. In conversation with Sanjoy K. Roy, he discusses the shifting landscape of health, genetics and evolution in a world moving forward from COVID and the path ahead.
Sharad P. Paul is a skin cancer specialist, family physician, academic, evolutionary biologist, storyteller, social entrepreneur and an adjunct professor at Auckland University of Technology. In 2008, Dr. Paul was featured in international editions of TIME. A noted polymath, he was named ‘Renaissance Man’ by New Zealand Herald’s Canvas magazine. In 2012, he was awarded the NZ Medical Association’s highest award and was a finalist for New Zealander of the Year. In 2015, he received the KoAwatea International Excellence Award for ‘Leading Health Improvement on a Global Scale and Patient-Centred Medicine Across Several Countries’. He has authored several works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and medical textbooks. His latest book is The Genetics of Health.
Sanjoy K. Roy, an entrepreneur of the arts, is Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, which produces over 33 festivals in 42 cities and 17 countries, including the world’s largest literary gathering — the Jaipur Literature Festival and international editions of JLF. He is a founder-trustee of Salaam Baalak Trust, working to provide support services for street and working children in the inner city of Delhi where over 1,30,000 children have benefited from education, training and residential services. Roy is the Co-chair of the Art and Culture Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and former President of Event and Entertainment Management Association. He lectures at and works in collaboration with leading universities across the world and has been conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of the University honoris causa by University of York, UK, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the arts and society.
