Muharram in Mahmudabad is part of India's intangible cultural heritage. The two and a quarter month period is a time when people from various communities come together to recall the sacrifices of the martyrs of Karbala. During this battle the Prophet''s grandson, Imam Hussain, along with his family and companions were martyred because they would not compromise with their principles because of political expediency. The video offers you a glimpse of some of the rites and rituals, customs and traditions that are unique to Mahmudabad and have been maintained to this day.

Correction: The couplet at the end of the video is by Maharaja Mohammad Ali Mohammad Khan 'Muhib' and not by his son as Raja Mohammad Amir Ahmad Khan.
