In this video I show you the dedication and time it takes to make a real life turkey decoy.  I've been making turkey hunting decoys for more than ten years and I've very proud of the results they get.  The hunters that use these decoys have a very high rate of success.  Wether you're turkey hunting with a bow or turkey hunting with a 12 gauge.  The Cedar Spur Decoys are going to get your wild turkeys in close enough to make an easy shot for a turkey harvest.

We start with tannig the hide.  It's easiest to do it when the turkey is fresh but if you need to you can put the turkey i a freezer to do it at a later time.  Once you're ready to work on the hide you stretch it and use borax laundry soap. The borax laundry soap with cure the skin of the hide toughing it up.  You can then Brush it and pull the turkey meat off of the skin.

After a couple weeks the hide will cure and it will ready to put on the foam turkey form.  Before we place the hide on the turkey form we get the neck and the head ready fo the hide to slide over.

You need to take your painted turkey head and put it in the foam turkey form.  Slide the hide over the wired neck and foam .  You will need to adjust the hide so that it is placed in the stance you like.  You will need to pin the turkeys hide to the foam turkey form.  I use T pins and large gauge wire to pin the wings where you need them.

After that you take the fan of the turkey and screw it to the back of the turkey flushed out so that live turkeys can see the decoy in a long distance.

From there you have a real life mounted turkey that will last for years and years.  Hunting with the right turkey decoy carries a high success rate.  The turkeys are brought in by the site of the turkeys and they stay because they feel like real turkeys.  The turkeys stance and color of their heads will help determine whether the turkey you  are hunting will commit.  Once the turkey is committed you're sure to get a shot.

Making a real life turkey decoy is a lot like doing turkey taxidermy.  You use foam turkey forms and taxidermy quality turkey heads.  The main difference is the stance.  Usually when you do a turkey mount you you want it big a blown out to make it look like the dominant tom turkey.  When you're making a tom turkey gobbler decoy you want it to be strutting but not so dominantly.

Although this is a lot of work.  it would probably still be easier to make a real turkey decoy than it would to be to make a foam decoy. Only because you'd have to make a form then fill the form with the foam you'd need to make your decoy.  Then pain the decoy and make a stand that would hold that decoy.  Making a real life turkey decoy will take some time but you can do most of the work you need with most of the tools you already have around the house.  You would just need some turkey taxidermy supplies to make a real life turkey decoy

Cedar Spur Decoys are the best turkey decoys you can buy and is the closest thing to a guarantee you can get in the hunting community.  If you have questions feel free to ask about how to make a real life turkey decoy.  Whether you're turkey hunting in the midwest or turkey hunting down south or even turkey hunting out west.  Bow hunting with a turkey decoy will get the turkeys in close enough to shoot.  Bow hunting is a little risky because you have to get the turkeys in closer but using a pop up blind and setting the decoys up close will help you tag a turkey with a bow.
