The 4 main varieties of
The 4 main varieties of river you can use in your cartography projects.
I was a little unclear in the video, so here are the 4 main kinds of rivers as they appear on the map from top to bottom:
1) Fast flowing / Inlet
2) Slow flowing / Inlet (previously outlet)
3) Fast flowing / Outlet (kinda...)
4) Slow flowing / Outlet
Basically, slow flowing rivers tend to pick up a lot of sediment, while fast flowing rivers tend to erode away steep banks. I'm sure this is way oversimplified, but I've still got a lot to learn about rivers so hopefully this video at least got you thinking about different types of rivers and what character you want your river to have in your campaign.
