Lata Ji is more than an inspiration for me. As a woman, she stood at the pinnacle of the industry for five decades. As a female musician, I can relate to the struggles and challenges she must have faced. Furthermore, Lata Ji has been a teacher for me. Since I came to India, by playing her songs, I have learnt more about Indian classical music. Her songs are challenging yet satisfying to play. I have grown to appreciate her songs, musicality and talent much deeper. I am so grateful for being born in Lata Ji’s era. Through this tribute, I wish for her departed soul to rest in peace. At the end of the day, what remains of her legacy is indeed her soothing nightingale voice.
