Jake Sullivan, the US national security adviser, asserted at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday that Washington is "not seeking a regional conflict" in the Middle East, even as tensions escalate in the Red Sea. “We are eagerly working with partners throughout the region to try and pursue a pathway. But in the meantime, we have to guard against and be vigilant against the possibility that, in fact, rather than heading towards de-escalation, we are on a path of escalation that we have to manage.”Sullivan's remarks follow closely on the heels of a coalition led by the US conducting strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. This action was taken in response to the series of attacks by the Iran-backed militia on commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea.
