Time Has Come for Two Beautiful Cubs to Unite

We have bittersweet news: Freya, who came to us on May 17, is ready for her next adventure. The paperwork is done, and her flight is booked. Freya will be joining Pi at Drakenstein Lion Park in South Africa.

Sadly, once lions are taken from the wild, returning to full wilderness is very challenging. Sanctuaries provide the closest and best solution, offering space and nature for them to be true lions while receiving necessary medical care.

Rescuing lions solo presents a unique challenge in finding them a partner. Success is higher when introducing a male and female, a group of females, or juvenile and subadult lions before sexual maturity. Positive interactions through or across the fence are promising signs of a successful future introduction.

Pi has already moved to a bigger enclosure, and Freya will be placed in the one right next to him for a proper introduction before they are mixed together.

We all hope Freya and Pi will become a loving couple and live happily ever after. Stay tuned for updates on Freya's journey starting next week.
