Rio Carnival 2020. Mangueira parade. Champion Parade. Special Group.
6th place at carnival Rio 2020. Mangueira explored different faces of Jesus, his life and his teachings in modern days, as young blacks and poor prisoners, indigenous people, women and members of the LGBT community. Throughout the parade, the school explored different faces of Jesus.In the front committee, he appeared in his classic representation, a white man with long hair and beards, mixed with a version that he imagines what it would be like in modern times. While walking with the poor at funk dances on the hill, he danced and suffered police repression.
Another version was played by the drum queen. Evelyn Bastos entered the avenue like a woman Jesus. In a purple dress, chained and wearing a crown of thorns, she did not dance at Sapucaí.
Even so, Mangueira also portrayed classic New Testament passages, such as the visit of the Three Kings and their gifts, the visit to a temple turned into a market (in a great allegory with the actor Humberto Carrão), and his ordeal. In the fourth car, a giant statue showed a young black Jesus crucified.
With 4,000 components, the green and pink sang the storyline "The Truth will make you free", in 19 wings, with five cars and three tripods. Short video, clip.
